Hair Myths!
If you pull one out, seven will grow back!
Sorry, but they won’t. If it were true we would have people of all ages pulling their hair out in an attempt to thicken their hair!
My hair falls out more when I’m washing and drying. Is the washing and drying to blame?
No, it just seems that way. Loose ‘Telogen’ hairs always come out more easily because they are at the stage of the hair cycle where by the hair is ready to be shed. Although it can be disturbing, it is normal to loose between 80 – 100 hairs each day!
Has over/under washing my hair caused it to fall?
No
Cutting the hair makes it grow thicker/faster?
No, it doesn’t. Cutting the hair doesn’t influence the mechanisms responsible for the growth phase!
Is hair loss natural?
Between 80 – 100 hairs are shed daily. This is the normal amount an average person may expect to shed, but if you are worried then get in touch with us. There’s usually a reason for increased shedding.
Brushing 100 times every night is good?
No, besides, imagine the physical trauma to the hair if you brushed that extensively each night!
Eating bread crusts makes hair curly?
No
These are just a few questions people ask and demonstrate why, with so many myths around, you should refer to a qualified trichologist if you are under any doubt about the condition of your hair or scalp.
